When it comes to the impression a suit style makes, the right size is everything.
Even with a great design and material, a suit won't look its best in the wrong size. To look polished and prepared for important events like meetings and business negotiations, you first need to know your own size.
ORIHICA offers many different size variations to suit a wide array of body types. In this article, we will introduce the basic points for finding your own perfect suit size.
A suit's size is the finishing stylish touch
Choosing the right suit jacket comes down to size.
Suits are designed to streamline your silhouette, so it's important to first know your own size.
Custom-made suits are one option, but they aren't always the right choice. Even ready-made suits can look polished and stylish in the correct size.
Plus, ready-made suits let you easily incorporate your own personality with the materials and patterns, and they can easily be styled for both business and daily wear. ORIHICA offers a wide range of size variations. Please try to find the best suit for your body type.
Five Points for Checking Suit Size
1. Shoulder Width
Ideally, the shoulder seam should fit naturally right at the shoulder. Check to make sure that it doesn't fall further past the shoulder or pull in before the shoulder.
If deep wrinkles form inside the shoulder seam, that's a sign that the jacket's shoulder width is too narrow and tight.
On the other hand, a shoulder seam hanging over the arm makes the shoulder area look loose and sloppy.
A properly aligned shoulder seam makes the overall silhouette of the suit look smooth and beautiful.
2. Waist Circumference
A jacket's waist circumference is key to creating a clean silhouette. Check whether the jacket fits comfortably and naturally when buttoned.
If X-shaped wrinkles form when the jacket is buttoned, it's a sign that the waist circumference is too tight. On the other hand, when the jacket is too loose and the collar gaps unnaturally, the size might be too large.
For a polished look, you'll want a jacket that doesn't pull in too tightly but also isn't too baggy or boxy.
3. Jacket Length
Jacket length is also important for a suit's overall balance and impression.
Generally, the jacket should be long enough to fully cover your rear, or at least two thirds of it. You can also check the length by using the base of your thumb and index finger as a reference point while hanging both arms down naturally.
A jacket that is too short can seem very casual and may not look formal enough.
On the other hand, a jacket that is too long can make the suit's overall balance feel heavy and unstylish.
4. Sleeve Length
After jacket length, the next point to consider is sleeve length.
For a polished and professional impression, the sleeve should fall just around the wrists, with about 1 to 1.5 cm of shirt visible.
Jacket sleeves can look sloppy when they're too long, but also tight and uncomfortable when they're too short.
5. Pants
The final thing you'll want to check is the pant size.
Check that the pants aren't too tight around the waist or thighs, and that you can move easily when standing and walking.
Ideally, the length should lightly cover the top of the shoes but leave the heels slightly visible.
There shouldn't be any excess folds of material in the front. If the pants are too short, they won't make a formal or serious impression. On the other hand, if the hem is so long that it bunches up over the shoes, the pants won't look polished and the overall balance won't look right.
